Sliema grew in the nineteenth century as a summer resort for Valletta families and is now the most densely built residential town in Malta. The Strand and Tower Road promenades, the Tigné Point development, the Valletta ferry and a wide choice of shops, offices and restaurants make it the practical centre of expatriate life. Most housing is apartments, from older blocks to new seafront developments.
